On March 11, 2020, Luminary hosted the Umbraco Meetup in Melbourne. This meetup was focused on understanding the e-commerce options available for Umbraco 8.

The host and moderator for the event was our own Andy Thompson, CTO of Luminary.

We had the privilege of having both e-commerce vendors who support Umbraco 8 in this two-hour meetup.

  • Ucommerce (presenting from Denmark)
  • Vendr (presenting from UK)

Søren Spelling Lund, the Founder of Ucommerce gave us a sneak preview into Ucommerce 9 which will be released soon. Søren spoke of the framework first approach of Ucommerce, the search API, Project Bolt and Kondo UI. It was a very insightful session understanding the guiding principles and practical approach taken by the Ucommerce team to build this new version of Ucommerce.

Matt Brailsford, the Owner of Tea Commerce and Vendr then gave us a demo of Vendr which will be released at the end of March. Matt spoke of how Vendr is built on top of Umbraco and how it uses core Umbraco concepts in extending its feature set along with the familiar Umbraco UI interactions. The thought process which has gone into making the commerce experience as seamless as the content editing experience was a key takeaway from Matt's session.

The meetup ended with several questions on licensing costs, other e-commerce features and object synchronisation asked and answered. We are grateful to our presenters who had very early morning starts to accommodate our timings in the Southern Hemisphere.

Below is the full video of the meetup in case you missed it.
