The challenge

Operating in nearly 100 countries, World Vision pursues a holistic, community-based approach. Its long-term development work addresses the root causes of poverty through programs focused on: health and nutrition, clean water and sanitation, education, economic empowerment, and child protection.

WVI also provides rapid emergency relief to survivors of conflict and natural disasters. A significant part of its funding and engagement comes through child sponsorship, which supports these community-wide efforts.

Luminary has worked with World Vision International across a number of projects, including:

  • Migration of the Childhood Rescue microsite from Dapto CMS to headless CMS Kontent.ai
  • Creation of an email template for the Childhood Rescue initiative
  • Implementation of a Stripe payments gateway on the main website

What we did

Migration of Childhood Rescue microsite to Kontent.ai

Childhood Rescue is a flexible and fast-moving program that enables WVI to adapt to meet children’s needs in response to humanitarian crises around the world.

World Vision International approached Luminary to support it in migrating the Childhood Rescue microsite from DatoCMS to Kontent.ai. This move was motivated by the need to move to a platform that was able to provide better content workflows and to cater to the direction that World Vision International intended to take its content management strategy.

This project was completed within two months, using the Scrum framework and agile methodology. This involved building a cohesive team from the start of the project and incorporating a dedicated Product Owner on the World Vision International side. The team operated in two-week cycles, delivering tangible outcomes that were reviewed by World Vision International stakeholders, at the end of each cycle. This ensured that World Vision International could see progress and provide feedback on a regular basis.

As an extension of the work that we did on the microsite, World Vision International also engaged Luminary to build an HTML email template for its Childhood Rescue initiative. Using client-supplied designs, Luminary created an email template, using best-practice coding techniques. The work included testing using Litmus to ensure that the template displayed correctly across all of the most common email platforms.

Implementation of Stripe payments gateway

Following completion of the migration of the Childhood Rescue microsite from Dapto to Kontent.ai, World Vision International engaged Luminary to undertake a Stripe and Paypal UI migration on its main website. The organisation had decided to move away from its existing payment provider, Braintree, to the more popular and fast-growing Stripe platform. This engagement involved the implementation of Stripe Card Payment (Credit Cards) and Payment Request Button elements within the checkout flow, refactoring existing API calls to provide Stripe details to Mulesoft API. In undertaking this work, the Luminary team also ensured that all user interface elements implemented met AA WCAG a11y guidelines.
