Luminary has been certified as a Great Place to Work for the first time in Indonesia and for the sixth consecutive year in Australia.

An incredible 100 percent of our Bali team have rated Luminary as a Great Place to Work® in the 2021 Great Place to Work® Employee Engagement Study. Our Australian team was not far behind, with 92 percent of our Australia-based employees saying Luminary is a great place to work, compared with 55 percent at a typical Australian company.

It’s a result we’ve worked hard to achieve, with a strong focus on our people and culture – particularly through the challenges of the past 12 months.

“We spend a lot of time at work and work becomes an expression of ourselves,” says Luminary CEO and Founder Marty Drill. “Having an environment where we can be ourselves is linked to our overall fulfillment and ultimately our happiness.

“Luminary was created with the express intention of creating a great place to work. I wanted to create an environment where people could be supported to be the best version of themselves. Having what we do be certified by an external organisation allows us to ensure that intention is fulfilled each year.“

“If you look after the team, and allow them to be their best, they will look after your clients and will ensure you get the right outcomes for the problems you’re trying to solve.”

What does it take to be certified?

To qualify for Great Place to Work® certification, employees must answer a confidential survey about their workplace experience, which then gives the company an overall Trust Index™ score. A threshold score of 65 percent needs to be achieved for a company to be provided with certification.

As well as the Employee Engagement survey, the company must also complete a Culture Brief™, which covers things like how many employees work for the company, whether they are full- or part-time, what type of work they do, and the company demographics.

Certification is administered by independent organisation Great Place to Work®, a global authority on workplace culture. Since 1992, the organisation has surveyed more than 100 million employees around the world.

Says Samantha Huddle, General Manager, AUS/NZ, Great Place to Work®, “We help organisations quantify their culture and produce better business results by creating a high-trust work experience for all employees. Our culture management platform empowers leaders with the surveys, real-time reporting and insights they need to make data-driven people decisions. Earning certification shows that a company has created an amazing employee experience and elevates their status as an employer of choice.”

So what is it that makes Luminary great?

One of our company hallmarks is flexibility. We focus on our people getting the job done, rather than warming a seat from 9 to 5. Many of our team members worked remotely well before the pandemic, and a significant number work flexible hours, to help them balance work and life.

We also have a really strong focus on doing good for the world. In fact, we recently became a Certified B Corp, which means we’ve made a formal pledge to make decisions that benefit people and the planet. We’re 100 percent carbon neutral, and we work with lots of charities and NFPs – both as clients and otherwise. We even have a Volunteering Policy, which means you can take a whole day off per year to work with a volunteer organisation and still get paid.

We truly believe in the importance of our team members’ wellbeing and career development, with initiatives like our Employee Assistance Program, personal and professional coaching, regular Friday training sessions, and an ‘open paw’ policy (canine companions welcome).

And of course there’s all the usual social highlights you’d expect from a digital agency, including monthly team events, team lunches and Friday night drinks.

But at the end of the day, it’s our team members’ voices that speak the loudest. So don’t take our word for it - have a look at what they had to say in the results of our Australian and Indonesian team surveys!
